Not giving up
Keep going!

Sorry, I am still here . . still trying.
Ok I will try again to post regularly and share my journey, its now 2023! I know a lot more about the detail of the tech I have been using, updated my knowledge in CSS getting my head around Flexbox and Grids. Actually using Codepen rather than thinking Ah cool! and looking at other peoples Pens. Also forcing myself to create a site using Git and Netlify rather than just watching a tutorial and believing I can do that if I need. Also embracing terminal and SSH – which is amazing, so fast!
So I am resetting and trying to find a way to move ahead in becoming a freelance frontend web dev. My current “plan” is to stick with what I know and feel confident I can deliver what the brief demands but base this initially around WordPress and Elementor.
I am updating my web hosting site to promote this service, so I will also share the pain of creating this site, adding payment options, user areas, marketing, getting clients, communicating with clients during the project . etc. . Part of the time away from this blog has been to research and understand how to do this, but the new me builds and uses the knowledge to create and share!
What is my niche or USP (unique selling point)? I am a designer so I believe your site would look great and you would avoid the designer fee part of a website project. Anyone happy to be on-line but left cold by how your new website looks?
Some of you may have a WordPress website and are having a worry about upgrading to work with php v8? I have worked through this with a couple of the sites I manage and designed and it can be tricky, backups are your friend but these can be so difficult to achieve. I currently use Updraft Plus – plugin but I would caution that this may not backup all you need and working out how to piece it all together can be hard. I would strongly recommend SSH ing into your site and tar zipping up the root folder and downloading it somewhere else.
Don’t forget the Database! Learn how to access and export via phpMyAdmin – or similar.
JavaScript . . still a work in progress, I have tried a few different teaching sites – I will share soon – and I get it more but I still find React a difficult concept to get my head around, but I will get there!
